Frequently Asked Questions

What is Lite DOT and how does it work?

Lite DOT is Electreon’s above-ground, 11 kW wireless charging solution for electric passenger cars and light commercial vehicles. It will turn a parking space into a wireless charging spot, allowing drivers to charge hands-free simply by parking over the pad.

Key benefits include:

  • Automatic charging: Once a vehicle equipped with a compatible wireless receiver is positioned over the pad, the system identifies it and charging begins automatically.
  • No plugging in: No cables or connectors to handle.
  • Above-ground installation: Can be installed without digging or trenching.
  • Versatile deployment: Designed for homes, workplaces, parking facilities and fleet depots, with the option for OEM integration into vehicle platforms.

Which vehicles is Lite DOT designed for?

Lite DOT is designed for electric passenger cars and light commercial vehicles (LCVs), with 11 kW charging well suited to longer parking periods, such as overnight or during the working day.

Key benefits include:

  • Compatible vehicles: Vehicles will need a compatible wireless receiver, integrated with Electreon or its Tier 1 partners.
  • Built for OEM integration: Lite DOT is an integration-ready solution designed to support multiple vehicle platforms.
  • Faster path to market: Automakers can integrate wireless charging without developing the technology from scratch.
  • Ready for what’s next: Its hands-free operation supports increasingly automated and autonomous vehicles.

What does a driver need to do to start charging?

With Lite DOT, drivers simply park over the charging pad and let the system do the rest. Once a compatible vehicle is positioned over the pad, it is automatically identified and charging begins.

Key benefits include:

  • No cables: No need to plug in or unplug.
  • No perfect parking: Generous alignment tolerance means the vehicle does not need to be positioned precisely over the pad.
  • Charging visibility: Charging status can be viewed through the vehicle display or the Electreon Flow application.
  • Hands-free convenience: Charging becomes one less task for the driver.

How much charging power does Lite DOT provide?

Lite DOT will provide up to 11 kW of wireless charging power, making it particularly suited to passenger cars and light commercial vehicles that remain parked for longer periods.

Key benefits include:

  • Designed for longer stops: Charging can take place overnight, during the working day or during other extended parking periods.
  • High efficiency: Lite DOT achieves up to 90% charging efficiency under specified operating conditions.
  • Automatic top-ups: Vehicles can gain range during existing parking time.
  • Everyday convenience: Makes charging a seamless part of the vehicle’s normal routine.

What needs to be installed to use Lite DOT?

Lite DOT combines vehicle-side and parking-side components for automatic wireless charging.

Required components include:

  • Charging pad: An above-ground pad installed in the parking space, without excavation or trenching.
  • Wall unit: Mounted on a wall or pole and installed by a certified electrician according to local requirements.
  • Power supply: A standard three-phase (3-phase) power socket, similar to those used for other 3-phase EV chargers.
  • Vehicle receiver: A compatible wireless receiver supplied by Electreon or an approved Tier 1 partner and installed beneath the vehicle.
  • Software: Electreon Flow provides charging information and system monitoring.

Once these components are installed, charging can begin automatically whenever the vehicle is positioned over a compatible Lite DOT pad.

Is Lite DOT safe for use around people and in busy environments?

Yes. Lite DOT is designed for safe operation around people and pets in homes, workplaces, commercial areas and busy logistics centers. With no exposed electrical plugs or live connections, it can help reduce risks associated with conventional charging equipment.

Key safety features include:

  • Charging pad: Contains no active electronics and remains dormant until an authorized vehicle is detected.
  • Proprietary handshake: Energy transfer begins only after the vehicle receiver is authenticated.
  • Cable-free: No cables, connectors or related trip hazards.
  • ICNIRP-2010 compliance: EMF emissions operate well below internationally recognized exposure limits.
  • Weather-ready: Designed for indoor and outdoor use, including rain and snow, at temperatures from -30°C to 50°C (-22°F to 122°F).

What makes Lite DOT easier to use than a standard wired charger?

Lite DOT makes everyday EV charging effortless by eliminating cable handling and the need to remember to plug in. Simply park over the pad and charging can begin automatically.

Key benefits include:

  • No plugging in: No need to connect the vehicle—or worry about forgetting.
  • Easier cable-free handling: No cables to lift, carry or connect, which may make  charging more convenient for people with mobility limitations or disabilities.
  • Hands-free convenience: Helpful when carrying groceries, luggage or anything else that leaves your hands full.
  • Fewer obstacles: No cables on the ground means fewer trip hazards and a cleaner parking environment.
  • Lower maintenance: No charging cables to wear out, maintain or replace, helping reduce maintenance costs.
