In Trondheim, Norway’s first wireless public road is automatically charging an e-bus equipped with Electreon’s technology—while in motion and at stops.
Delivered for AtB transit operator, and backed by the Trøndelag County Transportation Authority, the project set out to prove that Electreon’s wireless solution is ready for real BRT routes.
Electreon’s dynamic charging was deployed along an AtB bus route on a public road next to the operator’s depot in Trondheim. The system was put to the test: steep hills that demand extra drive power, cold winters with heating, and warm summers with AC.
Even under these conditions, the bus stayed charged and ran smoothly. And thanks to in-route wireless charging, this demonstrates the potential for smaller, lighter batteries rather than hauling oversized packs.
Beyond supporting Norway’s zero-emission goals, the project points to AtB’s larger vision—an electric road shared by buses, trucks, and taxis, where clean transport flows effortlessly.

Konrad Pütz
Director of Transportation at the Trøndelag County Transportation Authority
"Inductive charging of vehicles in motion can be an important technology for the transport sector. This project will be most relevant for buses and lorries. The project will provide important knowledge for the coming bus tender in the greater Tarondheim area, in operation by 2029. We want to contribute to reducing the barriers for making use of inductive charging under challenging winter conditions and learn how to make it successful.”
