Transform BRT corridors into high-efficiency charging zones
Electreon is powering Haifa’s BRT, the “Metronit”, by embedding wireless charging directly into the route. Buses now glide with continuous power through one of the nation’s busiest corridors, turning daily transit into a live clean-energy showcase.
The project is Electreon’s second BRT deployment, following a successful rollout in Norway. With government backing, this flagship initiative is steering Haifa toward a smarter, zero-emission future.
Five articulated e-buses serving the Haifa Bay and northern suburbs are fitted with Electreon’s wireless tech, drawing power seamlessly while in motion, during slowdowns, and at stops. Charging coils embedded in busy stretches of the route keep energy flowing on the move, while wireless points at terminal stations deliver extra top-ups during boarding and unloading. Together, these forms of opportunity charging stack up throughout the day—extending range and removing range anxiety.
This hybrid setup keeps buses rolling from dawn to midnight without swapping vehicles or straining the grid—and it’s kinder to the batteries, too. By spreading demand across the day, the system avoids costly depot charging, skips heavy grid connections, and makes off-peak energy use a breeze. Over time, that means lighter, cheaper batteries and a smoother path to fleet electrification. And since multiple buses can share the same charging stretches, scaling up is simple—no extra infrastructure needed.
For a global BRT market hungry for cost-effective, zero-emission transit, Electreon’s in-lane charging hits the sweet spot—keeping buses moving, cities cleaner, and operators smiling.
What our partners are saying
Mr. Dan Shenbach
CEO of TransIsrael
“As a leader of innovative transportation solutions, Cross Israel Highway is pioneering the integration of dynamic and stationary wireless charging within Israel’s first Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system, the Metronit network. This integration will extend electric but service times, enable fleet expansion and optimization, and enhance service quality, offering passengers a more efficient, comfortable and eco-friendly ride”.
