Rouen makes history with the first induction bus in France

Continuous charging right in the bus route eliminates charging breaks
For the very first time in France, an induction bus has been put into service. And not just anywhere—this milestone is happening right on a real urban transport network. Powered by Electreon’s wireless charging, the bus can recharge on-the-move or when parked. Plugs are replaced by seamless charging, and wait time turns into uninterrupted travel.
This pioneering project was launched by the Métropole Rouen Normandie, together with Citeos Rouen and Electreon Wireless France, as part of the city’s drive to cut carbon emissions and make its bus fleet smarter and more efficient.
An experimental TEOR bus equipped with Electreon technology now loops along Line T4, from Boulingrin to Boulevard des Belges and back via Rouen Rive-Droite station. It charges while driving on a stretch between the university hospital (CHU) and Martainville—and also as it stops at the Boulingrin terminal. Energy flows invisibly from coils buried under the road to receivers under the bus, keeping it charged up without ever leaving the route.
The result? Long charging breaks are replaced with seamless, uninterrupted service. With wireless charging built right into the journey, buses can run lighter, smarter, and greener. And for passengers, it means a future where public transport keeps moving forward.
