An e-truck charges as it cruises down the Bavarian Autobahn, powered by Electreon’s dynamic Electric Road System embedded right into the highway.
The project is part of Germany’s collaborative E|MPOWER initiative, backed by federal funding and driven by a consortium of research institutes, engineers, and builders.
The goal is to demonstrate that wireless charging scales directly into real highways—providing fleets with a seamless solution as they move from depot charging to dynamic charging on the road.
The project spans the entire value chain: from planning and construction to deployment and large-scale production of ERS components. In doing so, it highlights the feasibility and impact of wirelessly charging multiple vehicle types—even while driving at highway speeds.
It also introduces new construction methods that cut costs and shorten build times, while enabling German companies to take part in producing Electreon’s components and paving the way for broader adoption.
Eurovia—Electreon’s partner in Europe—led the road design and construction through its subsidiary VIA IMC GmbH, working hand-in-hand with Electreon.
As part of the deployment, Electreon embedded its advanced in-road charging coils into a section of the Autobahn and equipped the truck with its receiver technology, making it fully wireless-enabled. This builds on several earlier projects between Electreon and Eurovia, further strengthening their partnership to expand in-road wireless charging systems across Germany.
