WiBiCharge is moving wireless EV charging in a new direction: both ways. Electreon will bring its wireless charging technology to this project, funded by the European Union* under the Horizon Europe research and innovation programme, to demonstrate bidirectional wireless charging. WiBiCharge will demonstrate this wireless technology on passenger cars and LCVs, in line with the project’s funding call. These vehicles are expected to be able to receive energy while parked and send stored energy back to the grid when needed. It’s a step toward connecting electric mobility more closely with the energy system. The project aims to make bidirectional wireless charging safe, interoperable, convenient, and grid-friendly.

Running from June 2026 to November 2029, the project features real-world pilots in Stockholm, Dachau, and Milan, with site setup starting in 2028. Electreon will deploy its wireless charging technology in the Stockholm and Milan pilots, as part of a project demonstrating how EVs, charging systems, and the electricity grid function as a single V2G ecosystem. ERTICO–ITS Europe coordinates the project, bringing together Electreon, Toyota Motor Europe, Kinto, DENSO, ABB, city authorities, and many additional leading research, technology, and standards organizations.
Beyond easier charging, WiBiCharge turns parked EVs into active energy assets that balance peak demand. By testing in real cities and setting common standards, the project brings Europe closer to a future where EVs don’t just use the energy system—they become part of it.
